A Supernatural Night on PBS: Revisiting My Hoot and Holler Storytelling Experience

Last weekend, I stumbled across something I hadn’t seen in a while—my appearance at Hoot and Holler from a little over a year ago, featured on PBS Echo TV.

For those who may not know, Hoot and Holler is a beloved monthly storytelling event here in Roanoke, often held at the historic Grandin Theatre. It brings together voices from all walks of life—raw, real, and deeply human stories shared in community.

This was my second time taking the stage. The theme that night leaned into the supernatural, and with the support of producer and director Lee Hunsaker, I crafted a story rooted in my spiritual path. I spoke about my shamanic vision quest, and an experience cleansing a home that carried a heavy, dark presence.

It was received with warmth, which always humbles me. But what stayed with me most happened offstage.

During intermission, as I was stepping out, I unexpectedly ran into my primary care doctor. There he was—someone who knows me in a very clinical, grounded way—sitting in the audience, listening as I shared some of the most intimate and spiritual parts of my life. I remember feeling both surprised and deeply human in that moment… seen in two very different worlds at once.

Until recently, I had only seen bits and pieces of that night—some raw footage here and there—but never the full, professionally edited version. Coming across it now felt like a quiet gift. A moment captured in time, reflecting a part of my journey that continues to unfold.

So, I thought I’d share it with you.

I hope you enjoy it.
